Closed Case Round Up: December Edition

Posted by Cailey Taylor on Dec 8, 2017 3:26:11 PM

Check out just a few of the FANTASTIC results achieved for our clients! This month's round up includes a contractor who hired a national chain to fix his taxes and ended up owing more money to the IRS and a business man who got into tax trouble after his partner failed to file or pay the company's taxes.

Case #1: This client worked in the construction industry for years but fell behind on filing his tax returns due to his busy schedule. In an attempt to put his tax problems behind him, he hired a “national chain” tax resolution firm to help. But after sending them all of his tax documents, the company went out of business and his documentation was never returned to him! After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, our client was once again motivated to get his taxes taken care of so that his family wouldn’t be affected. During his first few conversations with Polston Tax, we concluded he was a great Offer In Compromise candidate! Our team worked tirelessly for this client and after a short period of time, we were able to get the Offer in Compromise approved by the IRS, settling his tax problem once and for all! After all was said and done, our client saved over $200,000—but more importantly, he gained peace of mind that his tax problem would never be a burden to his family.

Case #2: Our next closed case story involves a couple who fell into financial trouble while trying to help their son get through a rough patch in his life. While helping him, they didn’t have the money available to pay their taxes and ended up accumulating a large liability. They set up an Installment Agreement with the IRS on their own, but the monthly payments were way too high and the couple started to fall behind again. After trying over and over to set up a new payment plan with the IRS, the couple came to Polston Tax to get help. After going through their financials and months of tough negotiation, we were able to put a new payment plan in place that was much more affordable for our clients. Because of the lower payments, a large portion of the client’s tax liability will expire before they have to pay it off, saving our clients over $90,000 in the end!

Case #3: This third story begins with a business owner that got into tax trouble because their accountant was not taking care of the business’s payroll taxes. Because of this, our client was the issued an $85,000 liability for that business! To make matters worse, as he was making payments to the IRS for the business liability, a Revenue Officer decided to go after him personally for the taxes owed. The RO then levied our client’s paycheck and put a lien on his home, leaving the client desperate for funds. Luckily, he reached out to Polston Tax and we were able to get the levy released from his paycheck and the client put into Currently Not Collectible status, saving our client $91,816!
