Cristiano Ronaldo Reportedly Reaches Deal in Tax Evasion Case

Posted by Cailey Taylor on Mar 25, 2019 3:28:34 PM

Portugal soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s tax troubles may finally be ending. The soccer star has reportedly reached a deal with Spanish prosecutors in his tax-evasion case. Ronaldo was accused by Spanish Authorities of evading over 14.7 million euros (equal to about $17 million) in taxes between 2011 and 2014. The authorities allege that Ronaldo set up a company to manage his image rights but then transferred the rights to a second company to confuse Spanish Tax authorities.

Under the alleged agreement, the amount he owes was reduced to 5.7 million euros and Ronaldo will pay a fine of about 18.8 million euros ($21.8 million). Despite a prison sentence being part of the deal, Ronaldo is likely not going to serve the two year sentence as first-time offenders usually serve their time on probation.
